Last month, a large number of 2024 TVs went on market. We’ll keep promoting 2023 TVs until they run out since, in most cases, the greatest deal can be found on reduced 2023 models because year-over-year improvements aren’t significant enough to warrant purchasing the newest model. Nevertheless, the sheer amount of options can be debilitating, regardless of whether you choose a 2023 or 2024 model.

The TCL QM8 should be at the top of your list if you want a large TV with a great picture without spending a lot of money. This TV surpasses the TCL 6-series, which I tested last year as the greatest TV for the money. It kept the pricing about the same while providing better brightness and contrast. This is my recommendation if your price range is “not an OLED” and your size range is “65-inch or bigger.”
However, the Hisense U8K is a better option if you require a 55-inch size. Similar to this TCL, this Google TV is likewise reasonably priced and has excellent image quality and mini-LED technology.
that’s a lot less than what you would spend on a Samsung or Sony device with same fidelity. When I put the TCL QM8 and the Hisense U8K side by side in the TV lab at CNET, they both looked amazing, but generally, I think the TCL has a little bit more contrast and brightness.
When it comes to features and visual quality between these two TVs, price is what separates them for me. When you read this, if the Hisense U8K is on sale for a lot cheaper than the TCL QM8, I would suggest purchasing the Hisense. That’s how close the two are. Check out the price of the LG C3 OLED if you’re curious how much extra you’d have to pay for an even better picture.
Pros
- Relatively affordable
- Excellent overall image quality
- Best-in-class brightness and contrast
Cons
- Only available in 65-inch size and larger
2.Hisense U8K

- MINI-LED & FULL ARRAY LOCAL DIMMING: Mini-LED is the latest breakthrough in backlighting technology. By utilizing LED’s that are significantly smaller than traditional LED’s we are able to use many more LED’s to create a bright image that distributes the light more evenly for a uniform image across the screen
- QLED QUANTUM DOT WIDE COLOR GAMUT: Quantum Dot QLED produces purer, richer, more brilliant and accurate color than a regular LED TV. Creating over a billion color combinations that bring vibrant images to life in a way non QLED TVs can’t

Near the top of Hisense’s lineup of 2023 TVs is the U8K. Although the business does offer more expensive models, such as an upgraded 85-inch ULED X that costs reasonable, and ultrashort throw laser projectors (dubbed “Laser TV” by Hisense) that start at $5,000 for 100 inches, most TV buyers will be considering the U8K. Mini-LED backlights are also available on the company’s less costly U7K and U6K TV series, however they are less bright and feature fewer local dimming zones than the U8K. Although I haven’t evaluated them, I anticipate that their image quality will be lower than the U8K’s based on their specifications.
In addition, if you’re looking to buy a 100(ish)-inch TV, keep in mind that the 100-inch Hisense U8K is less expensive than half of the 98-inch TCL QM8, which costs more than $10,000 as of this writing. Hisense has an advantage.
Pros
- Relatively affordable
- Capable Google TV system
- Excellent overall image quality
Cons
- Not quite as bright or dynamic as some competitors

For many years, our top pick among OLED TVs has been LG’s C series. The C3 Evo line has some of the lowest input lag we’ve ever observed, along with improved color performance and brightness over its predecessor. If it weren’t for the Samsung S90C, which features an over-the-air TV tuner that makes it even brighter and more future-proof, it would have been a lock for our Editors’ Choice award.
Editors’ Note: Tests conducted on the 65-inch model in the series served as the basis for this evaluation. Aside from the variation in screen size,
Pros
- Slim, sleek design
- Incredibly low input lag
Cons
- No ATSC 3.0 tuner
4.TCL 4-Series
- Stunning 4K Ultra HD: Enjoy breathtaking 4K movies and TV shows at 4 times the resolution of Full HD. Plus your favorite HD shows, movies, and sporting events are enhanced to near Ultra HD resolution with advanced 4K Upscaling.Image Aspect ratio:16:9.Controller type:Touch Control
- High Dynamic Range: Enjoy free TV, live news, sports, movies, and more.
- Simple, customizable home screen: Your favorite broadcast TV, streaming channels, gaming console and other devices are front-and-center. No more flipping through inputs or wading through complicated menus.

In our cheap TV test, the TCL 4-Series Roku TV’s picture quality lagged behind the Vizio V-Series, but the variations are so tiny that you would actually need to stand them up side by side to see any discernible differences. Dolby Vision, Bluetooth connectivity, and AMD FreeSync with a variable frame rate are features that the Vizio offers that the 4-Series does not.
The superb Roku Smart TV system is an inherent feature of the 4-Series, giving it an advantage over the Vizio. For those seeking a comprehensive smart TV solution without the need to add an additional streaming device, this makes it an excellent option.
Note that TCL has been selling the 4-Series for a few years now, and despite the fact that it just added some larger screen sizes, including an 85-inch option, there has been little to no change in terms of image quality or functionality in our tests.
Pros
- Superb Smart Television setup
- Reasonable
Cons
- Certain low-cost TVs have poor image quality and features.
5.LG OLED G3
- Special feature : α9 AI Processor Gen6; Brightness Booster Max; Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision; Intelligent Voice Recognition
- Supported internet services : Apple TV
- Tuner technology : ATSC

In my more than two decades of reviewing TVs, the LG OLED G3 produces the highest quality images I have ever tested. It performs admirably in both bright and gloomy environments because to its superior antireflective screen and brightness compared to comparable OLED TVs. These characteristics allowed it to surpass the Samsung S95C immediately in terms of color, putting it in the best-ever category.
It costs hundreds more than less expensive OLED TVs like the LG C3, and most people won’t find the difference worth it. Neither does the S95C.
The upgraded screen technology known as MLA (for Micro Lens Array) on the G3, which takes the place of the G2 from the previous year, is what LG claims is responsible for the G3’s higher brightness. There are four sizes in the G3 series: 55, 65, 77, and 83 inches. The largest size, 83 inches, does not have MLA, so I don’t expect it to function as well as the other sizes.
Pros
- Best picture quality we’ve ever tested
- Slim, wall-friendly design
- Best picture quality we’ve ever tested
Cons
- Samsung S95C has superior color
Best gaming TVs of 2024
The TVs listed at the top of the page are the ones that offer the highest picture quality for the money, the lowest lag I’ve measured among the TVs I’ve tested, or both. The prices shown below are for the 65-inch sizes unless otherwise specified.
Which TV size should I purchase?
Bigger is better, in our opinion, and greater screen sizes are a better use of your money than a little improvement in image quality. The size of the room and the distance you sit from the TV will also determine the size of the TV you need. A larger room will require a larger TV.
Which is superior, LEDs or OLEDs?
OLED TVs, or organic light-emitting diode TVs, have consistently produced higher-quality pictures in our reviews than LED TVs, which are basically LCD TVs with LED backlights. Better contrast and pop are primarily caused by OLED TVs’ ability to generate a flawlessly dark shade of black without any stray illumination or blooming. Compared to OLED TVs, LED TVs typically cost less and can get brighter.
HOW WE EXPERIENCE THE TOP TVS?
The following factors are taken into consideration while ranking the top TVs: picture quality, audio quality, gaming features, smart TV features, ease of use, design, and affordability. We arrive at these results based on our subjective assessment from watching the TV as well as objective measurements.
In order to evaluate picture quality, we begin by going over each TV’s picture presets, such as Standard, Movie, Sports, and so on, to see where they are most accurate and where they have flaws. To evaluate a TV’s efficacy in upscaling, we test these picture modes using a variety of sources, including 4K Blu-ray and streaming, HD Blu-ray and streaming, and lower-resolution sources like DVD and broadcast TV.
We are checking to see how the TV’s processor manages different aspects of the images. For example, how motion is handled in 24 frames per second films as opposed to sports, or how natural the details appear when upgraded from lower to higher resolution. We’ll evaluate how well a TV handles digital artifacts and color banding that are typical on streaming services, as well as if digital noise reduction technology destroys the look of film grain.
Additionally, we’re checking for a movie’s ability to handle dark tones, particularly if it’s an LCD model. This includes any uneven backlighting and backlight blooming from light to dark areas.
Conclusion
A new TV is a huge decision because many of us watch TV for at least an hour every day. We always advise going large if you have the room when purchasing a TV. Although the size of a 65-inch TV may appear extravagant, I believe it to be the “sweet spot” for most living rooms. It’s just the right size to provide an immersive gaming and watching experience without taking over the room. It’s also one of the most often used and favored TV sizes available, so you have a lot of options.
