At least on the edges, the Samsung S90C QD-OLED TV’s crazily thin panel design instantly makes your heart race. Because it doesn’t come with the external connectors box that its more expensive sibling, the Samsung S95C, does, it becomes chunkier in the middle, although some people may actually like the overall style of the less expensive model.

That being said, once you begin watching the Samsung S90C, it will become evident why it is ranked #1 in our guide to the best TVs to buy. It should be noted that, when comparing our measures to those from our Samsung S95C review, it is about 20% less light than the S95C models at the same size. However, this is pretty much the only way its pictures fall short of those of its more expensive sibling. In fact, I can imagine some home theater fans perhaps preferring the S90Cs slightly gentler but arguably more consistent-feeling images, assuming you have control of the ambient light. And it’s still brighter than almost all the other best OLED TVs, including big hitters such as the LG C3.

While there are QD-OLED 65- and 77-inch versions of the S95C, which we tested, it actually uses WOLED technology (also known as “regular” OLED, like the kind found in the LG C3 or Sony A80L) instead of QD-OLED for the 83-inch version. As a result, you shouldn’t take this review as indicative of the performance of the 83-inch version. That model is most likely going to be significantly less light.

All four of the Samsung S90C’s HDMIs can support full 4K 120Hz gaming visuals with outstanding connectivity, and its smart TV system offers all the streaming services one could ever want. Despite minor improvements since its 2022 debut, the smart interface is still difficult to operate.

As the S90C’s sound is more unequivocally a step down from that of the S95C models, finally, it’s still a healthy improvement on the sound quality of its 2022 QD-OLED predecessor, the Samsung S95B. And better, again, than most mid-range TVs – though the Sony A80L is a strong competitor there.

The Samsung S90C’s key feature is that it’s an OLED TV with quantum dots. With this new OLED design from Samsung, different hues are produced by pushing blue light through layers of quantum dots. By eliminating the pure white component included in conventional OLED manufacturing, this method may provide images that are brighter overall and have richer, more accurate colors, particularly in the brightest areas of the image.

Samsung enhanced the screen’s filtering for this second generation of QD-OLED to lessen the possibility that ambient light would affect black levels; modified the organic materials it uses to increase the panel’s efficiency and brightness without using more energy; and enhanced the software’s monitoring of all the screen’s pixels to further boost contrast and extend the panel’s effective life span.

The LG B3 carries on a long-standing LG tradition by offering an excellent, more reasonably priced OLED TV option. The LG B3, which debuted in April 2023, was not the best deal on the market. The B3 retains many of the same audio capabilities as the C3 and G3, including LG Sound Sync and AI Sound Pro sound mode, which can upmix sound to 5.1.2 when chosen, even though its speaker system isn’t as extensive as those in other models.
