This review of the Ecovacs Deebot T30S Combo may be the closest I’ve come to using a robot vacuum without feeling the need to keep one of the best vacuums on hand for thorough cleaning. The Combo and Combo Complete models of the new T30S model have additional vacuuming features, which contributes to its excellent performance in vacuuming and mopping, including edges, thanks to its retractable mop pad.
A handheld vacuum (along with accessories) with a dock in the base station is included with the Combo that is being reviewed here. A stick vacuum is another feature of the Complete version.Regardless of the version you choose, it is packed with features, including a voice assistant. Your willingness to spend the money will determine whether this is the best robot vacuum for you. After all, aside from the price, the majority of my complaints about it are rather minor. For example, it’s not always responsive to foot control (a light tap should activate it to clean), and it has poor cable management (like most robot vacuums).
It appears that there are two colors available for robot vacuums: black and white. The Ecovacs Deebot T30S is matte black in color. As long as you have the room, it will most likely blend in wherever you put it.The robot vacuum itself resembles the majority of modern robot vacuums. It has a raised cylindrical area in the usual round shape, which I always assume is for navigation, like a ship’s bridge. A bumper on the front of the device detects foot control presses; a light press initiates a cleaning cycle. A roller brush with v-shaped bristles that prevent tangles is fed debris by a single side brush. Additionally, the unit has two mop pads at the back that can retract over carpet. Additionally, one of them has the ability to reach clean edges.
The base station has a dock for the robot vacuum and the attached handheld vacuum, two water reservoirs (one for clean water and one for dirty water), and a compartment for the attachments for the handheld vacuum.
Additionally, there is a front panel that opens to reveal the dust bag, which is where the robot vacuum and handheld vacuum’s contents automatically empty when docked. It’s also noteworthy that the base station will clean the mop pads both during and after use, before drying them for the subsequent cleaning. When it comes to vacuuming and mopping, I have been generally impressed with the recent crop of robot vacuums that I’ve gotten my hands on, and the Ecovacs Deebot T30S is no different.
In regard to the vacuuming, one of my tests was to pour a bunch of bay seasoning on the floor. It vacuumed it up in one go. I also ran it after a birthday party with some small bits of food and small bits of trash and it managed to pick everything up. I’ve also not had to worry about untangling anything – an issue with some cheaper vacuums.
Pros
- Fantastic mapping
- Tons of features on offer
Cons
- Pricey
2.iRobot Roomba Combo J7 PluS
- SMART TECHNOLOGY FOR DRY CARPETS. The Roomba Combo j7 plus seamlessly transitions from carpet to hard floors and vacuums, mops, and empties itself in the same mission without any intervention from you. It cleans your floors without needing to avoid carpets or requiring you to change cleaning modes.
- IT DOESN’T JUST LEARN YOUR HOME; IT REACTS TO IT IN REAL TIME. With PrecisionVision Navigation and a camera, your robot identifies and avoids obstacles of all sizes like pet waste, charging cords, socks and shoes to get the whole job done.
- MOPS THE FLOOR, KEEPS CARPETS DRY. – Only from iRobot, your carpets stay dry with D.R.I. (Dry Rug Intelligence): The Roomba Combo j7 plus robot and Auto-Retract Mopping System lift the mop high away from carpets

One of the most reputable robovac brands makes the Roomba Combo j7+, a vacuum and mop in one. This ingenious device has a wide range of fascinating smart features, such as the ability to detect objects and dirt. With the help of built-in AI, these can identify the most frequent clutter in your house and safely clean the areas around your pets. The mapping is excellent, and the robot will identify areas that may require additional attention as it gains knowledge about your house.
The robot itself looks robust and well-made, with thoughtful features like a very ingenious retractable mop pad that, when not in use, rests on top of the robovac to eliminate the risk of wet carpets. It’s also worth mentioning the great companion app.
Cleaning performance was decent but not flawless during the test. The dual rubber rollers effectively prevented hair from getting tangled in the mechanism, and the J7+ performed admirably when it came to general cleaning. This feature was also very successful in clearing surface dirt from my hard floors, leaving them clean and shiny after the mop pads had saturated. However, I discovered that the self-empty bin feature is too noisy and that the vacuum might have trouble with larger dry spills.
Some of the best robot vacuums available today can automate tasks like cleaning the mop pads and emptying and refilling the water tanks. You can read more about the vacuum-only version if you don’t need the mopping feature in our iRobot Roomba j7 Plus review. The j7 Combo Plus is no longer the newest or greatest Roomba available as of the time this review was updated; instead, the Roomba Combo 10 Max is; you can view the current lineup in our Roomba range guide. Benefits of that include the possibility of avoiding full price while still receiving a very capable robovac supported by this brand’s extensive experience. I’ve seen some significant price reductions on this model, and if you manage to get one, it can offer amazing value. That’s my summary; continue reading for my in-depth analysis of the iRobot Roomba j7 Plus.
Featuring a gunmetal disc on top and a matte black casing, the iRobot Roomba Combo j7 Plus is an all-black vacuum. Here, you’ll also find its very minimalist control system: one button you can press to pause and start the vacuum, or hold for five seconds to send it home.
Weighing in at 7.49lbs and with a diameter of 13.3″ / 33.8cm, the Roomba Combo j7+ robot is on the larger and heavier side. This size allows for a slightly larger-than-average capacity and coverage but can also limit its movement in tight spaces. The weight also contributes to general noise levels as the vacuum moves from room to room. With a height of 3.4″ / 8.6cm tall, the robot has relatively good clearance but will struggle with some lower-down furnishings.
Pros
- App is excellent and intuitive
- Adjusts suction based on dirt levels
Cons
- Side brush flicks debris
- Self-emptying bin very noisy
3.Shark PowerDetect 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop
- UP TO A MONTH OF HANDS-FREE CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE: The robot automatically empties debris into the 60-day-capacity bin, automatically refills its own water tank for up to 30 days, and washes and dries the mopping pad after every clean.
- 5 INTELLIGENT POWERDETECT CLEANING TECHNOLOGIES: Five powerful cleaning technologies help to target hidden debris, stuck-on stains, edges and to optimize cleaning for every floor type, handling the toughest cleaning challenges.
- UP TO 2X BETTER CLEANING COVERAGE*: With NeverStuck Technology, the robot lifts itself over obstacles and across thresholds. When mopping, it keeps the pad above carpets to prevent wet messes and deliver whole-home coverage. (*vs. Shark ION).

Although the Shark PowerDetect 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop with NeverTouch Pro Base isn’t the first robot vacuum available that can do both tasks simultaneously, its numerous intelligent features set it apart from the competition. Actually, it has a lot of detection features, some of which are taken from the best Shark vacuums available today. These features include the ability to determine the type of floor it is on and how dirty it is, as well as the ability to identify stains and spills that are wet or dry and automatically modify its cleaning behavior accordingly.
During my testing, I discovered that the PowerDetect robot vacuum performed admirably when dealing with various kinds of stains and debris of various sizes, and the detection features worked as advertised. Expect the best clean when the vacuum and mop work together. Unfortunately, the suction wasn’t strong enough to completely pull up super-fine materials like flour from hard floor or a thick rug, and you’ll almost certainly need to supplement it with a manual vacuum for occasional deep cleaning – but that’s not unusual, even with the very best robot vacuums.
The mopping is effective, but left my wood floors wetter than I would have liked. Unfortunately, you cannot opt out of the automatic cleaning and instead manually choose vacuum or mopping settings, which is frustrating in situations like this.Although the Shark PowerDetect 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop with NeverTouch Pro Base isn’t the first robot vacuum available that can do both tasks simultaneously, its numerous intelligent features set it apart from the competition. Actually, it has a lot of detection features, some of which are taken from the best Shark vacuums available today. These features include the ability to determine the type of floor it is on and how dirty it is, as well as the ability to identify stains and spills that are wet or dry and automatically modify its cleaning behavior accordingly.
During my testing, I discovered that the PowerDetect robot vacuum performed admirably when dealing with various kinds of stains and debris of various sizes, and the water tanks. That’s the priciest option and the one I tested for this review, and I appreciated how it took care of so many maintenance tasks for me. However, if you’re on a budget, you can opt for a model with a NeverTouch base (no ‘Pro’). It’s the exact same robot vacuum, but the dock doesn’t self-clean and it doesn’t have an anti-odor puck.
With a cleaning path width of 5.69 inches and a diameter of 13 inches, the Shark PowerDetect 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop with NeverTouch Pro Base is a black circular robot vacuum. Most cabinets can accommodate it because it is only 2.7 inches tall.
The NeverTouch Pro base, which is dark gray—almost black—came with my review model. Its dimensions are 17.5 inches in height, 18.8 inches in width, and 14.33 inches in depth. In this dock, the robovac is charged, its mop pads are cleaned, the onboard dust cup and dirty water are drained, and the onboard water tank is refilled. Additionally, it has an anti-odor puck to stop odors from accumulating.
Compared to other robovac-mops I’ve tested, the Pro base is fairly small, but if you’d rather somethingsmaller, take a look at the regular NeverTouch base (RV2820YE). It lacks self-cleaning capabilities and doesn’t have the anti-odor puck, and it looks a little different in that the water tank on the base is visible.
Pros
- Can lift itself over high thresholds
- Vacuums and mops simultaneously
Cons
- Can’t adjust suction manually
4.iRobot Roomba S9 Plus
- A DEEP, DETAILED CLEAN. Groundbreaking technology makes the s9+ our legacy powerhouse robot vacuum. With 40x more the suction power*, the 3-Stage Cleaning System lifts, loosens, then eliminates debris and pet hair from deep within your carpets for a clean you won’t believe — with no effort from you. Automatically increases suction to clean even deeper into carpets with power boost technology. *Compared to the Roomba i Series robots
- EMPTIES ITS VACUUM BIN, SO CLEANING IS OFF YOUR MIND – Cleans up after itself, emptying its Vacuum Bin into an enclosed bag that holds up to 60 days of debris, which means two whole months of not thinking about vacuuming.
- CLEANS WHEN AND WHERE YOU WANT – Only IRobot brings you Imprint Smart Mapping allowing you to control and schedule which rooms are cleaned and when, while storing multiple maps for easier cleaning on each level of your home. Plus, customizable Keep Out Zones and Clean Zones allow you to tell them the exact area to avoid and clean.

Since the original Roomba robot vacuum was introduced nearly 20 years ago, robot vacuums have become widely available and a mainstay in many homes.
The Roomba S9 Plus, iRobot’s most recent model, may function similarly, but with a number of advanced features, it’s a completely different animal from the original and among the greatest robot vacuums we’ve tested so far.
The most obvious feature is that it will empty itself, which means that instead of shaking out a dust box every few days, it will whisk the contents of the vacuum into a bag in the charging station. The bag’s 14.9 oz/440 ml capacity allows for approximately 30 cleans, transforming a daily task into a monthly one. This is ideal for people who are time-poor or dislike emptying the dust box. There’s also a filter for allergy sufferers that captures 99 percent of mould, pollen, and dust mite allergens.
The sophisticated mapping system on the Roomba S9 Plus is another unique feature. This isn’t gimmicky; rather, it serves a useful function by letting the vacuum know where it has been and where it still needs to clean, which cuts down on lengthy operating times that still result in missed patches. The robot collects over 230,400 data points per second using a technique called vSLAM navigation technology, which improves cleaning and gives the user more control over which areas are vacuumed and when. Once operational, the mapping offers cleaning flexibility and efficiency that budget models cannot match, despite the fact that it may initially appear like a chore.
The compatibility of the Roomba S9 Plus with the iRobot Braava jet m6 robot mop is a last benefit. The two robots can ‘talk’ to each other, automatically vacuuming and then mopping without any additional commands, leaving hygienic floors behind – great for busy households, families, and properties with large areas to clean.
In addition, the Roomba S9 Plus promises a powerful cleaning system alongside its advanced features, which include a 3D sensor, wider brushes, and a corner brush.Although the rose-gold lid concealing the bin is one of the more obvious differences between the iRobot Roomba S9 Plus and its predecessors, it has many improvements. These include a brush with five angled arms to truly reach into corners and along walls, as well as wider Dual Rubber Brushes (in comparison to the Roomba 600 series). There are just three buttons on top: one to send it home, one to start and stop cleaning, and one for spot cleaning. These buttons are helpful if you don’t have your device with you.
Although it’s not overly big, the machine weighs 8.15 lbs. (3.7 kg) and is rather heavy to move from room to room. It isn’t overly tall at 3.5 inches (9 cm).to tuck under most beds although it may be too tall to fit underneath some sofas. The Roomba S9+ is an average 12.25 inches / 31cm wide but it’s the charging station you may struggle to find room for. At 19 inches / 48cm tall and 12.2 inches / 31cm wide it takes up a decent amount of space against a wall, especially when allowing for the suggested clearance of 1.5ft / 50cm either side on top.
Pros
- Easy to operate
- Accurate room mapping system
Cons
- Expensive
5.Eufy RoboVac 25C
- Brand New in box. The product ships with all relevant accessories
Last update on 2025-01-10 / Affiliate links/images from Amazon.
Located close to the bottom of the manufacturer’s lineup, the Eufy RoboVac 25C is a simple robot vacuum. It uses bump navigation to navigate its cleaning area while lacking room mapping capabilities. It features a BoostIQ system designed to automatically boost suction power on carpeted floors, just like many other Eufy robot vacuums. Additionally, it has a separate remote control that lets you give specific commands without an internet connection, which is useful if your home’s Wi-Fi coverage is patchy.
For bare floors, the Eufy RoboVac 25C performs admirably. Although it may require an additional pass to completely clean any pet hair, it performs an excellent job of handling small and large debris on this surface type. Regretfully, like most robot vacuums, it struggles with sucking up debris in cracks and crevices. Its rather basic navigation system results in mediocre maneuverability too. It also has many parts that need regular cleaning.
For vacuuming low-pile carpet, the Eufy RoboVac 25C performs mediocrely. On this surface type, it has trouble with both large and fine debris, including pet hair. Its recurring costs are moderately high, and there are a few parts that require periodic cleaning. Additionally, because of its simplistic navigation system, it frequently becomes stuck near obstructions like coat racks. Although it has a feature called BoostIQ that should enable the vacuum to automatically boost its suction power on carpets, it doesn’t always work as planned. Fortunately, this vacuum can also be used without an internet connection, which is useful if your home’s Wi-Fi coverage is spotty.
For high-pile carpet, the Eufy RoboVac 25C is a mediocre choice. It doesn’t use a lot of force.through its suction inlet and struggles with sucking up pet hair and fine and large debris on this surface type. It also has a hard time climbing onto high-pile rugs. Recurring costs are moderately high, and there are a few parts that need regular cleaning. Its surface detection system is unusual for a vacuum in this price bracket, but unfortunately, it doesn’t work very consistently. However, it’s very quiet, and you can use it without an internet connection.
Pros
- You can use it without an internet connection.
Cons
- Struggles with large and fine debris on carpets.
How we test robot vacuums
We spent almost 300 hours assessing 15 robot vacuums using standardized protocols created by ASTM International and the International Electrotechnical Commission. A total of 405 data points were gathered in order to score each model. In order to keep our insights up to date, we have since tested even more units.
We evaluated each robot’s performance in straight-line pickup and obstacle navigation on carpet and hard floors in our 107-square-foot, two-room test enclosure. Additionally, we assessed their ability to move under furniture, around sharp edges, over uneven surfaces, and smoothly switch between carpets and hard floors.
In addition to performance, we evaluated usability by looking at how easy it was to remove and clean all parts after use, how clear the initial setup was, and how intuitive the controls were. Additionally, we rated the user manuals for their helpfulness and clarity.
