1.SVS SB-1000 Pro

SVS undoubtedly have a homey appearance, and the SB-1000 Pro shares many design elements with the original SB-1000. We’re talking about a menacing black box that is about thirteen inches across. a bit bigger than the first one. All you need to know for now is that there have been very few design changes between this model and the previous one; we go into the specific differences in much more detail below. And that’s a really positive thing.

Overall, we believe the SB-1000 Pro’s design is outstanding; even though it’s an entry-level device, the build and appearance have been carefully considered. Even though the 26-pound frame is surprisingly light, it feels as substantial and heavy as a tank. We particularly like the fact that there are no angled corners here, which means you are unlikely to crack your shin on it and gouge out a chunk of flesh, leaving you hopping around on one leg while bleeding profusely and explaining to everyone in range how you wish you’d gone to SVS.

One 12-inch driver dominates the front of the subwoofer. There are no extra open ports because it is a sealed subwoofer. SVS does produce a ported version of the subwoofer, the PB-1000 Pro, if you’re interested in gaining more power at the expense of control and detail. We can’t compare this model because we haven’t tested it yet, but we can say that it looks like its sealed brother. Because of their size, subwoofers are frequently the center of attention in any space they are placed in, making them unnecessarily noticeable. Here, that isn’t the case. The SB-1000 Pro has a nice, non-intrusive design.

Our subwoofer came in a rather fetching white, but there’s a black option too. You also get a choice of materials: glossy, or wood (ours was gloss). We have enough experience of SVS subwoofers to know that the black gloss option does pick up fingerprints quite easily, so that’s going to be a problem for you, definitely spring for the wooden version.

The controls on the back of the subwoofer are the biggest change, and boy, are they welcome. Start with protruding dials. Get out of here, little switches. SVS has switched to digital. You can adjust the crossover, phase, and subwoofer volume with a single line of blue lights. Here’s what each of those means. Along with controlling the auto-on setting, you can also turn the subwoofer on and off.

It is a very effective system that is easy to use and intuitive. It’s wonderful to see this technology trickling down to the entry-level models. The much more costly SVS SB-3000 subwoofer (full review here) has the same control setup. Furthermore, the price has not increased from the previous model. You receive an entirely new control setup, reworked driver, and a few other quality-of-life improvements, for That’s exactly the same price as the original SB-1000. It’s quite something, and it reinforces our belief that SVS are among the most customer-focused audio companies around.

2.Monoprice 9723

Monoprice needs a corporate retreat more than any other company in the audio industry. Nothing at all is wrong with them that couldn’t be fixed with some intense sex and a few shared joints. This business lacks so much creativity that they don’t even bother to name some of their products. The 9723 is the name of this one.

However, a company’s dull identity does not necessarily translate into dull products. You can tell why Monoprice has been so successful after listening to this subwoofer. Although it is less than half as expensive as the SVS SB-1000 Pro, it may not have the same raw power. By eliminating all unnecessary design elements, Monoprice are able to offer this gem of a subwoofer for an absolutely knockdown price. The sound quality is clean and controlled, with thumping energy that makes it sound a lot bigger than it is. If you are on a budget, this is the subwoofer you need to buy. For another affordable option (although it is slightly more expensive) check out the RSL Speedwoofer 10S MKII, which we talk about below. The Monoprice sub does a better job at balancing movies and musical output, but the RSL is a good alternative.

3.SVS 3000 Micro

With the exception of size, the majority of SVS subscribers have very similar appearances. One front-mounted driver, a large black housing, and possibly a strange bass port. Even though the 3000 Micro doesn’t represent a significant change for the business, its appearance is very different from that of the previous models.

The 3000 Micro is obviously small, at least in subwoofer terms. It is roughly the size of a couple of stacked shoeboxes, measuring 10.9″ x 11.7″ x 10.7″. Because of its small size, the clever clogs at SVS reasoned that they shouldn’t be content with just one. You get two side-mounted, grille-covered 8″ drivers in place of the single front-mounted driver found on other SVS subwoofers, such as the SB-1000 Pro (read the full review here).

The fact that a subwoofer of this size is so uncommon cannot be overstated. The KEF KC62, a micro-sub that is actually marginally smaller than the 3000 Micro, is the only other model that we believe meets the requirements. But, at about $1,500, it’s also much more costly. It is truly remarkable that SVS was able to pack so much technology into such a small package and keep the cost under $900.

Additionally, we don’t believe that the simultaneous release of Micro subwoofers by SVS and KEF is a coincidence. The sale of high-quality hi-fi equipment has significantly increased overall over the past few years, and nearly all music streaming services are now introducing higher quality tiers.past year. It’s a rare positive outcome of the dratted Covid19 pandemic: with people confined to their homes, there’s been a renewed interest in hobbies like hi-fi. Listeners want to experience subwoofers, but what hasn’t changed is the size of their living spaces. For most people, that’s a small apartment. There is clearly a market for smaller, more compact subwoofers, and we don’t think SVS and KEF are going to be the last companies to take advantage of the trend. Expect to see many more micro subwoofers on the market soon.

Most SVS products offer a few color and finish options: black and white, and matt or glossy. The 3000 Micro comes only in glossy black. It’s a finish that can really pick up fingerprints if you’re not careful, so bare that in mind before you buy.

4.Sonos Sub Mini

You cannot use Sonos products with those made by other manufacturers. This implies that the Sonos Sub Mini cannot be used with, for example, a stereo amplifier or an external AV receiver. It might be a deal breaker if you’re not already a part of the Sonos ecosystem. If you are, however, you are already aware that Sonos provides the most superior and straightforward wired sound quality available. The Sub Mini is a more affordable and compact version of the original sub. It makes a surprisingly muscular sound with its unusual circular drivers that fire inward. Although it isn’t as good as the top-ranked SVS SB-1000, it’s still good.

Our only problem with the Sonos Sub Mini, aside from system-specific use, was the build quality. Put simply, it didn’t feel as solid or as well made as other Sonos products (like our One wireless speakers). The chassis has a significant amount of flex to it, and although you’re not going to be moving it around or even touching it—there are no controls on the sub itself—this is still a worry for a comparatively pricey product. But if wireless is what you require, then Sonos should be your first port of call.

The Sub Mini’s cylindrical design, which measures only 23 x 30.5 cm, maximizes performance while maintaining stability in a small cabinet thanks to a space-saving driver layout. Within, two opposing 15cm woofers, each driven by a class-D amplifier, produce a claimed low-frequency response down to 25Hz and minimize undesired mechanical vibrations brought on by the drivers’ motion through a force-cancelling effect.

The cabinet, which is completely sealed to minimize distortion and has a Dyson-like pill-shaped center tunnel that, according to Sonos, helps to move air efficiently while also evoking the appearance of the original Sonos Sub, is available in Sonos’ standard matte monochrome finishes. In keeping with Sonos’ subtle aesthetics, the Sub Mini features a black center tunnel that contrasts with the white colourway venturing as close to flamboyance as the brand dare tread. The build quality overall seems sturdy, though there’s a slightly insubstantial, cheap feel to the cylinder’s top plate.

where the subwoofers start to really amplify the boom. The rich, subsonic presence of the audio will make the walls tremble and your stomach turn. It’s truly an incredible experience. This is unquestionably the greatest choice for rooms that are larger than 250 square feet. The JS12 appears to have more presence and room-filling power, even though other less expensive subs, such as the SVS 3000 Micro, offer more wattage. It performs exceptionally well in home theater, adding flair and vigor to films and television programs. The less costly 3000 Micro is a better choice for those with smaller spaces, but the Seaton Sound sub is still a powerful device.

This subwoofer is for purists, though. It provides very few sophisticated features, such as app control, no room correction. In addition, we think it may be a little bit too expensive for most people. However, if you like raw bass, and want some of the best in the business, then this is an excellent starting point. Seaton are a no-nonsense company from Chicago who’ve been making subwoofers forever, including the absolutely monstrous F18+, so you’re in good hands here.
